I forgot everything in the world, I forgot that there—outside his skin— Was the sun, the moon, and the wind. 225 "Belly" is the more neutral translation, here, but чрево could also be translated as "womb," adding to the birth imagery found later in the poem. Like the Magi in "Темная Рождественская песнь," the masculine Leviathan is capable of giving birth. 172
