ON THE COVER – “Legacy Park” – The <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Norman</strong> is currently constructing Legacy Park, which will be acenterpiece <strong>of</strong> the University North Park (UNP) development along Interstate 35 in north <strong>Norman</strong>. Scheduled to openin the spring <strong>of</strong> 20<strong>14</strong>, the park will cover approximately 8 acres in the heart <strong>of</strong> the UNP retail and commercial development.The park will feature a 700-seat amphitheater for public gatherings and performances, a promenade, walkingand biking trails, public art, and sites for entertainment and restaurant venues overlooking fountains and a 2-acrepond. The architectural design for the park won the 2010 Central States Design Honor from the American Society <strong>of</strong>Landscape Architecture. Legacy Park will be a focal point along Legacy Trail, which is an existing and planned system<strong>of</strong> walking and biking trails and points <strong>of</strong> interest covering more than 15 miles, connecting north and souththrough the center <strong>of</strong> <strong>Norman</strong>.Funding for the park’s construction is provided by apportionment <strong>of</strong> sales and property taxes to the University NorthPark Tax Increment Finance District and ongoing maintenance <strong>of</strong> the park will be funded by a proposed UniversityNorth Park Business Improvement District.* Architectural renderings and computer-aided images provided by Howard-Fairbairn Site Design, Inc.
