CITY OF NORMANPUBLIC SAFETY SALES TAX FUNDBUDGETHIGHLIGHTSBackgroundOn May 13, 2008, the citizens <strong>of</strong> <strong>Norman</strong> passed a 7-year, one-half percent (1/2%) PublicSafety Sales Tax in order to increase the number <strong>of</strong> police <strong>of</strong>ficers and firefighters, and to constructtwo new fire stations. Ordinance O-0708-32 authorized the <strong>City</strong> to assess the new sales taxbeginning October 1, 2008 and terminating on September 30, 2015.Previous to Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2011, the revenues and expenditures associatedwith the Public Safety Sales Tax (PSST) were accounted for in the General Fund. They are now inthe PSST Fund, a Special Revenue Fund established with the passage <strong>of</strong> the <strong>FYE</strong> 11 budget toaccount for the temporary PSST revenue and related expenditures.<strong>FYE</strong> <strong>14</strong> <strong>Budget</strong>Estimated revenues <strong>of</strong> $9,340,298 are being projected at a 4.5% increase over estimated<strong>FYE</strong> 13 collections. Estimated expenditures <strong>of</strong> $10,224,073 are budgeted in <strong>FYE</strong> <strong>14</strong>.Two positions will be added during <strong>FYE</strong> <strong>14</strong> in the Police Department, making a total <strong>of</strong> 69positions in the PSST Fund. Thirty <strong>of</strong> these are in the Fire Department.By the end <strong>of</strong> the seventh year, 71 total positions will be added for improved public safety.ANNUAL BUDGET59
