<strong>The</strong>me A: Connecting the Pearl River Delta Region<strong>The</strong> energy consumption in a multi-level building (5-7 stories), located betweentwo stories residential buildings is simulated in this study. <strong>The</strong> building will beanalyzed with the following three different assumptions:A. Assume that the walls and windows have been built by hollow blocks and singlelayer of glasses, respectively.B. Assume that the walls have been built by insulated materials, instead of hollowblocks.C. Assume that the windows have been built by the normal double-glazing.2.1 <strong>Building</strong> information<strong>The</strong> building has seven stories, first story (underground) is parking and other sixstories are residential apartments. In each floor, there are two apartments. One ofthem has two bedrooms and the other one has only one bedroom. <strong>The</strong> totalbuilding’s height is 20 m (3.3 m per story). <strong>The</strong> area of building is about 1421 m 2 ,which about 1136 m 2 of it uses of air conditioning systems. <strong>The</strong> glazing ratios forsouthern, northern and eastern sides are 39%, 34.5% and 7.5% respectively andthere is no any window in the western side. Figure 2 shows the plan of thisapartment. <strong>Building</strong> position is toward the south direction.2.2 Materials properties<strong>The</strong> materials used for the mentioned three assumed conditions are as below:Materials used for ceiling and floors are the same for three assumed buildings.Ceiling is including 1.5 cm gypsum mortar, 10 cm reinforced concrete, 20 cm airentrained concrete, thin layer of bituminous coat and 2 cm cement mortar, by theway floors has made by 1.5 cm gypsum mortar, 10 cm reinforced concrete, 3 cmcement mortar and 8 mm parquet floor (solid wood).114
