Theme C: Education and Market Transformationmaterial and recycling of construction waste is relatively easy to achieve in China.Credits related to these recycling are readily adopted by the projects in China forcertification. Fig5 illustrates the distribution of credits adopted in some of recentChina projects of Arup adopting the LEED. It shows the popularity (orapplicability to certain extent) of these credits implemented in China. Among allcredits, the requirements on reuse of existing building or its components is difficultto achieve due to the relatively poor conditions of current building stocks.Renewable energy is also difficult to implement currently due to its relatively highcapital cost at the moment. In general, it is not very difficult for buildings withhigh design standards to get a good label such as Gold rating in China.100%0SustainableSitesWater Energy &Efficiency AtmosphereMaterials &ResourcesIndoor Environmental Innovation &Quality Design ProcessFigure 5: The distribution of LEED credits adoption in China Projects (based onthe summary of 20 projects)Another major development of green building in China recently on thedevelopment of Green Building is the issuance of the Green Building Code. In2006, Chine has implemented voluntarily its own green building assessment toolcalled Evaluation Standards of Green Building《 绿 色 建 筑 评 价 标 准 》or ESGB.Subject to the acceptance of the market in the coming years, it may become the keygreen building design standards in China.Similar to the LEED, the ESGB assessment scheme also use ‘point” base forassessing the performance of the building.
