<strong>The</strong>me B: Creating a livable, healthy and environmentally viable cities6.1 Selection of SitesIn order to select super high-rise mixed-use housing complexes and theircounterparts, ordinary multi-family housing complexes, complexes of similarhouseholds in similar locations were in principle selected. Since, the size of semipubilcspace is generally calculated on the basis of the number of households inrelevant complexes, the physical quality of semi-public spaces is determined by thenumber of households as the most important indicator.By searching ‘Realty 114’, selected as ordinary multi-family housing area werethose complexes with similar numbers of households that were closest to the superhigh-rise mixed-use housing complexes.Super high-rise mixed-use housing and ordinary multi-family housing groups arecompared as follows.Comparable housing complex groups were formed; there was a big difference indwellers’ occupancy time between Gangnam in Seoul and new towns in Seoulmetropolitan areas, indicating a difficulty in controlling exogenous variablesaccording to residential time. This is because super high-rise mixed-use housingcomplexes were intensively built after 2000, and were developed after commercialareas in the cities considerably matured, making it difficult to find ordinary multifamilyhousing with similar occupancy time in the cities.554
