Theme B: Creating a livable, healthy and environmentally viable citiesof transmission of disease through dried-up traps to floor drains in the soil andwaste drainage systems, we worked with the City University of Hong Kong todevelop a common W-trap system for our projects to ensure that the floor trapswere always charged with water. A number of plumbing suppliers haveexpressed interest in manufacturing this design for use in HA projects and thearrangements will be used on all new developments where practicable, the firstones being Eastern Harbour Crossing Phases 3 and 4.5.4 Safety Management SchemesA number of measures to improve site safety standards have been progressivelydeveloped and have increased safety awareness and promoted best practicesbeyond basic regulatory requirements. These included the Silver Card advancedsafety training scheme, Housing Authority Safety Auditing System, Pay for safety,environment and hygiene scheme. These systems has been instrumental inimproving safety management and the awareness of the managerial staff engagedin projects, by setting objective safety standards and implement them on sites. TheHA has a good record for site safety with 11.5 accidents per 1000 workerscompared to 64.3 accidents per 1000 workers in the industry as a whole, in 2006(Figure 1).Figure 1:302
