Two completed high rise public housingdevelopments with different micro-climatic conditions are selected for the modelcalibration, which is composed of two parts, namely on-site measurement foractual field condition and model simulation for predicted field condition. Thecalibration exercise demonstrates the high accuracy of the simulation results withthe software calibrated to local specific climatic conditions. The discrepancy isgenerally within 10%.7. CONCLUSIONPublic housing in Hong Kong has made an enormous contribution towards thewell-being of the community. With the availability of the advanced simulationtechnology, the micro-climate studies are instrumental to improve theenvironmental performance for each new public housing development, which havelong-term benefits to enhancing the built environment and quality of living of thesociety as a whole. Given a healthy living environment it helps to achieve asocially sustainable community. The application of the micro-climate studies inurban planning increases the practitioners’ and public awareness of the importanceof sustainable development in the society.
