For example good solar staticshading devices do good to shade the unwanted summer hot sun, but often block daylight in cloudywinter days. Also some dynamic features such as windows, or awnings do not respond in optimalways to climate changes for optimal use of renewable energies and sources, and air quality whichsurround the buildings.Traditional residential buildings are commonly not well integrated and thought of on the use ofrenewable energies and sources surrounding buildings which are solar energy, wind energy, rain andsnow energy. This paper reports on a new approach for sustainable building design, which is called TheSUSTAINABLE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING DESIGN - THE S3P2E2R4 SUSTAINABLEBIREATH APPROACH: Building Integrated Renewable Energies and resources, and optimal AIRquality Total Harvest APPROACH. That is, in addition to fulfilling its normal functions, the buildingis designed in an integrated manner and used as a harvester to harvest as much as practicableRenewable Energies and sources, and optimal AIR quality which surround the residential unit, forthe best benefits of the users of the unit, and for maximized sustainable contribution to theimmediate vicinity and worldwide at large. Also the well recognized environmental protectionpractices of S3P2E2R4 are adopted. Keywords: Sustainable building design, renewable energy, green building design1. INTRODUCTION – THE PRESENT ENVIRONMENTALBUILDING DESIGN STRATEGYHigh quality environmentally responsive residential buildings traditionally aredesigned to provide good insulation in winter and solar shading in summer. Mostcommonly these features are static features which do not change their positionsthroughout the year. Therefore good solar static shading devices often blockdaylight in cloudy winter days.569
