Pupils were also asked if they had ever used or tried drugs, as well as the type of drug
they had used or tried, and when they had last used or tried them. The percentages that
had ever used drugs, by school year and gender are presented in Table 157. Only a
very small number of pupils in years 7 and 8 reported ever using drugs. Among the
older year groups, the percentages increased with school year, and were higher in girls
than boys for each year group. By year 11, 22% of girls and 18% of boys reported that
they had used or tried drugs.
