10.9.3 All Mental Health
Information is presented on the prevalence of mental health and mental illness in the
community, inpatient admissions and mortality. It is generally difficult to obtain this type
of information as not all those who suffer from mental illnesses will consult at Primary
Care level, and those suffering from mild forms of mental illness are not necessary
recorded as such to due to potential problems associated with stigma, and this should
be borne in mind when interpreting the findings.
10.9.3.1 Diagnosed Prevalence of Serious Mental Health and Dementia
As part of the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), general practices compile
disease and medical condition registers. From these registers, the prevalence of these
various conditions can be estimated. However, there may be a high proportion of
patients who have the disease or medical condition, but it is undiagnosed and the
