exchange <strong>of</strong> experiences and research.<br />

Precisely, follow<strong>in</strong>g from the results <strong>of</strong> this research, members <strong>of</strong> REDLEES<br />

were <strong>in</strong>vited to participate <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>ter-<strong>in</strong>stitutional <strong>in</strong>vestigation: Initial tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> read<strong>in</strong>g and writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the university: from secondary education to academic<br />

achievement <strong>in</strong> higher education, which will cont<strong>in</strong>ue through 2012.<br />

For us, the most important strategy implemented so far has been the recent<br />

work <strong>of</strong> an <strong>in</strong>ter-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary group <strong>of</strong> twelve pr<strong>of</strong>essors from different majors<br />

that come from eight <strong>of</strong> the twelve schools <strong>in</strong> the university. The group’s goals<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g together about the basis <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutional policy for read<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the university, and work<strong>in</strong>g together to develop classroom strategies.<br />
