Arlene Archer co-ord<strong>in</strong>ates the <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Centre at the University <strong>of</strong> Cape<br />

Town, South Africa. She teaches <strong>in</strong> Applied Language Studies, Higher Education<br />

Studies, Film and Media. Her research <strong>in</strong>cludes draw<strong>in</strong>g on popular culture<br />

and multimodal pedagogies to enable student access to Higher Education. She<br />

has published <strong>in</strong> such journals as Language and Education, Teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Higher<br />

Education, and English <strong>in</strong> Education.<br />

Susaimanickam Armstrong, Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> English and Head-<strong>in</strong>-<br />

Charge, University <strong>of</strong> Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is a recipient <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Fulbright-Nehru Visit<strong>in</strong>g Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship <strong>in</strong> Native American Studies at<br />

UC Davis, CA, US. He coord<strong>in</strong>ates four language laboratories, s<strong>of</strong>t skills, and<br />

elective courses at Tholkappiar Campus. He is a Governor-Chancellor nom<strong>in</strong>ee<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Plann<strong>in</strong>g Board <strong>of</strong> the Periyar University.<br />

John Bitchener, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Applied L<strong>in</strong>guistics at AUT University, Auckland,<br />

New Zealand, is the author <strong>of</strong> <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> a Thesis or Dissertation <strong>in</strong> Applied<br />

L<strong>in</strong>guistics and co-author (with Ferris) <strong>of</strong> Written Corrective Feedback for Second<br />

Language Acquisition and <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong>. He has published many articles <strong>in</strong> SLA and<br />

academic genre discourse.<br />

Françoise Boch is a lecturer <strong>in</strong> Language Sciences at the Université Stendhal<br />

<strong>in</strong> Grenoble (France) and a member <strong>of</strong> the Laboratoire LIDILEM (L<strong>in</strong>guistique<br />

et Didactiques des Langues Etrangères et Maternelles/l<strong>in</strong>guistics and didactics<br />

<strong>of</strong> foreign and native languages). S<strong>in</strong>ce 2000, she has conducted studies on university<br />

writ<strong>in</strong>g (particularly scientific/academic writ<strong>in</strong>g) from the perspective <strong>of</strong><br />

both l<strong>in</strong>guistics and didactics.<br />

Tobias Boström is an M.Sc. student <strong>in</strong> civil eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g at Chalmers University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Technology (Sweden) focused on design and construction project<br />

management. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the second and third years <strong>of</strong> this five-year programme, he<br />

participated <strong>in</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong> Supplemental Instruction at his department.<br />

Gerd Bräuer was the chair <strong>of</strong> the European <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Centers Association<br />

for 2006-2008. A pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> German Studies at Emory University <strong>in</strong> the US<br />

from 1995-2004, he currently directs the distance-learn<strong>in</strong>g program for teachers<br />

at the <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Center at the University <strong>of</strong> Education <strong>in</strong> Freiburg, Germany.<br />

He is the <strong>in</strong>itiator and coord<strong>in</strong>ator <strong>of</strong> the Scriptorium project, dedicated to the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> a teacher tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g program <strong>in</strong> the fields <strong>of</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g and read<strong>in</strong>g<br />

pedagogy. His numerous publications on writ<strong>in</strong>g pedagogy and foreign lan-<br />
