Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Lisa Emerson from Massey University, New Zealand,<br />

has been a key player <strong>in</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> academic writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the tertiary<br />

curriculum <strong>in</strong> New Zealand s<strong>in</strong>ce 1989. She is currently teach<strong>in</strong>g the first <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong><br />

Center courses <strong>in</strong> New Zealand. Her research <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong>clude science writ<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

plagiarism, and transition literacy.<br />

Cathy Frier is a lecturer <strong>in</strong> Language Sciences at the Université Stendhal <strong>in</strong><br />

Grenoble (France) and a member <strong>of</strong> the Laboratoire LIDILEM (L<strong>in</strong>guistique<br />

et Didactiques des Langues Etrangères et Maternelles). Her tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g is <strong>in</strong> both<br />

l<strong>in</strong>guistics and the didactics <strong>of</strong> French. Her research concerns learn<strong>in</strong>g support<br />

<strong>in</strong> read<strong>in</strong>g-writ<strong>in</strong>g at different educational levels.<br />

Lisa Ganobcsik-Williams is Head <strong>of</strong> the Centre for <strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong>,<br />

Coventry University, England. She has taught and tutored writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> both UK<br />

and US universities, and has published <strong>in</strong> journals <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Rhetorica, The<br />

<strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Center Journal, and Computers <strong>in</strong> Composition. She has published an<br />

edited book, Teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> UK Higher Education: Theories, Practices<br />

and Models (2006). From 2009-11, she served as Chair <strong>of</strong> the European<br />

Association for the Teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong>, and this, as well as her service<br />

on the executive boards <strong>of</strong> the European <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Centers Association and<br />

the International <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Centers Association, has enabled her to help raise<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational awareness <strong>of</strong> the work <strong>of</strong> European academic writ<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

organisations.<br />

Matilde García-Arroyo is an English pr<strong>of</strong>essor at InterAmerican University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Puerto Rico, Metro Campus, where she teaches at the undergraduate and<br />

graduate levels. She comb<strong>in</strong>es her teach<strong>in</strong>g responsibilities with the research she<br />

conducts <strong>in</strong> both the read<strong>in</strong>g and writ<strong>in</strong>g processes <strong>in</strong> L1 and L2.<br />

Katr<strong>in</strong> Girgensohn, founder and scientific director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Center at<br />

the European University Viadr<strong>in</strong>a <strong>in</strong> Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, is chair <strong>of</strong> the<br />

European <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Centers Association (EWCA). She published a workbook on<br />

creative writ<strong>in</strong>g, an anthology on writ<strong>in</strong>g center work with <strong>in</strong>ternational PhD<br />

students, a novel, and several compilations <strong>of</strong> creative memoirs.<br />

Co-editor <strong>of</strong> Negotiat<strong>in</strong>g a Meta-Pedagogy: Learn<strong>in</strong>g from other Discipl<strong>in</strong>es<br />

(with Toni Glover), Emily Golson has published articles and book chapters <strong>in</strong><br />

the Journal <strong>of</strong> General Education, Advanced Composition, Computers and Composition,<br />

Kairos, and Comp Tales, She has been <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Center director at the<br />

American University <strong>in</strong> Cairo and chaired the first Department <strong>of</strong> Rhetoric and<br />

Composition <strong>in</strong> the Middle East.<br />

Karyn Gonano is a Language and Learn<strong>in</strong>g Educator at Queensland University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Technology (Australia), deliver<strong>in</strong>g writ<strong>in</strong>g programmes across the<br />
