Íde O’Sullivan is <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Consultant at Ireland’s first Regional <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong><br />

Centre at the University <strong>of</strong> Limerick. She is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the design, delivery and<br />

evaluation <strong>of</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g-support <strong>in</strong>terventions, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g teach<strong>in</strong>g academic writ<strong>in</strong>g<br />

at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, ground<strong>in</strong>g writ<strong>in</strong>g centre<br />

<strong>in</strong>itiatives <strong>in</strong> good practice and sound theory.<br />

Dennis Paoli has been the Coord<strong>in</strong>ator <strong>of</strong> the Hunter College Read<strong>in</strong>g/<br />

<strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Center for 25 years and Co-coord<strong>in</strong>ator <strong>of</strong> the college’s <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Across<br />

the Curriculum Program for 11 years. He is a former board member <strong>of</strong> the International<br />

<strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Centers Association and consultant for the City University<br />

<strong>of</strong> New York’s Office <strong>of</strong> Assessment.<br />

Kelly Peake, advisor <strong>in</strong> the Th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiative at Queen Mary, University<br />

<strong>of</strong> London, ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s a particular <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> academic literacies, transitions<br />

<strong>in</strong>to higher education, and the role <strong>of</strong> argument <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g discipl<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

knowledge. She has worked <strong>in</strong> higher education <strong>in</strong> Japan, South Africa, and the<br />

UK, and holds an MSc <strong>in</strong> Applied L<strong>in</strong>guistics from the University <strong>of</strong> Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh.<br />

Daniel Perr<strong>in</strong> is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Media L<strong>in</strong>guistics, Director <strong>of</strong> the Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Applied Media Studies IAM <strong>of</strong> the Zurich University <strong>of</strong> Applied Sciences, Secretary<br />

General <strong>of</strong> the International Association <strong>of</strong> Applied L<strong>in</strong>guistics (AILA),<br />

and Co-Editor <strong>of</strong> the International Journal <strong>of</strong> Applied L<strong>in</strong>guistics. Research and<br />

teach<strong>in</strong>g areas <strong>in</strong>clude text l<strong>in</strong>guistics, methodology <strong>of</strong> applied l<strong>in</strong>guistics, and<br />

analysis <strong>of</strong> language <strong>in</strong> the media and <strong>in</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional communication.<br />

Hadara Perpignan, who passed away on December 25, 2010, after a difficult<br />

illness, was senior lecturer <strong>in</strong> the department <strong>of</strong> English as a Foreign Language<br />

at Bar-Ilan University (Israel), where she taught writ<strong>in</strong>g for academic<br />

purposes to doctoral candidates. She developed writ<strong>in</strong>g programs at Bar-Ilan<br />

University and the University <strong>of</strong> Haifa, as well as at the Catholic University <strong>of</strong><br />

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her research centered on teacher-written feedback to<br />

student writ<strong>in</strong>g, affective and social outcomes <strong>of</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>struction, and genre<br />

analysis <strong>of</strong> literary criticism.<br />

Marie-Christ<strong>in</strong>e Pollet is a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Philosophy and Letters<br />

<strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Brussels. She is the Director <strong>of</strong> the Centre de Méthodologie<br />

Universitaire et de Didactique du Français which aims at help<strong>in</strong>g<br />

students develop their language competencies accord<strong>in</strong>g to their discipl<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

context.<br />

Emily Purser is Lecturer (s<strong>in</strong>ce 2002) <strong>in</strong> Learn<strong>in</strong>g Development at the University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Wollongong (Australia). She spent ten years <strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a and Germany<br />

teach<strong>in</strong>g English, language theory & history, and Australian Studies. One focus<br />
