Paula Carl<strong>in</strong>o is a researcher with the National Council <strong>of</strong> Scientific and<br />

Technical Research, CONICET, at the University <strong>of</strong> Buenos Aires. She leads<br />

the GICEOLEM (Group for Students’ Inclusion <strong>in</strong> Quality Education through<br />

Teachers Tak<strong>in</strong>g Care <strong>of</strong> Read<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> the Discipl<strong>in</strong>es), a group devoted<br />

to research and teacher development. Her <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong>clude WAC/WID,<br />

academic literacies, action research, teacher education, and graduate students’<br />

experiences regard<strong>in</strong>g their dissertations. She has lectured and consulted <strong>in</strong> several<br />

Lat<strong>in</strong>-American universities. She has authored Escribir, leer y aprender en la<br />

universidad. Una <strong>in</strong>troducción a la alfabetización académica [<strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong>, Read<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and Learn<strong>in</strong>g at the University. An Introduction to <strong>Academic</strong> Literacy], which was<br />

dist<strong>in</strong>guished as Best Book <strong>in</strong> Education 2005. Dr. Carl<strong>in</strong>o has co-authored<br />

Lectura y escritura, un asunto de todos [<strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> and Read<strong>in</strong>g. Everybody’s Matter],<br />

declared <strong>of</strong> Educational Interest by the National Senate <strong>of</strong> Argent<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

Montserrat Castelló is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the Graduate School <strong>of</strong> Psychology and<br />

Educational and Sports Sciences, Ramon Llull University (Catalonia, Spa<strong>in</strong>).<br />

From 2002-2008 she was Vicedean <strong>of</strong> Research and Doctoral Studies. Her publications<br />

focus on academic writ<strong>in</strong>g strategies and identity. S<strong>in</strong>ce 2008 she has<br />

been Editor <strong>in</strong> Chief <strong>of</strong> the journal Cultura & Educación.<br />

Lawrence Cleary is a <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Consultant at Ireland’s first Regional <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong><br />

Centre at the University <strong>of</strong> Limerick. Cleary is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the design, delivery,<br />

and evaluation <strong>of</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g-support <strong>in</strong>terventions, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g teach<strong>in</strong>g academic<br />

writ<strong>in</strong>g at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, ground<strong>in</strong>g writ<strong>in</strong>g centre<br />

<strong>in</strong>itiatives <strong>in</strong> good practice and sound theory.<br />

Mary Deane teaches at Oxford Brookes University, UK on the Postgraduate<br />

Certificate <strong>of</strong> Teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Higher Education (PCTHE) and the Associate<br />

Teachers (AT) course. In 2008 she won a Teach<strong>in</strong>g Excellence Award at Coventry<br />

University, and her recent publications <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>Academic</strong> Research, <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong>,<br />

and Referenc<strong>in</strong>g (2010), Critical Th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g and Analysis (2010), and the edited<br />

collection, <strong>Writ<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> the Discipl<strong>in</strong>es (2011).<br />

Ana T. De Micheli, PhD and Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Biology, has taught at the University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Buenos Aires s<strong>in</strong>ce 1985. The commitment to her students as well as her<br />

colleagues has led her to enter upon participatory action research us<strong>in</strong>g different<br />

practical approaches such as read<strong>in</strong>g comprehension and written production<br />

embedded <strong>in</strong> her teach<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Ursula Doleschal is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Slavic L<strong>in</strong>guistics at the Alpen-Adria Universität<br />

Klagenfurt (Austria) and director <strong>of</strong> the “SchreibCenter” s<strong>in</strong>ce 2005.<br />

From 1990 until 2003 she worked at the Department <strong>of</strong> Slavic Languages at the<br />
