MATERIALS, TOOLS, TECHNIQUES FUNDAMENTAL FACTORS IN THE DESIGN PROCESS AND WOOD ARCHITECTURAL WORK 139 ไม้เนื้อปานกลางมีความแข็งแรงในการดัดระหว่าง 600-1000 กก./ซม. 2 และความทนทานตามธรรมชาติระหว่าง 2-6 ปี, ไม้เนื้ออ่อนมีความ แข็งแรงในการดัดต่ำากว่า 600 กก./ซม. 2 และความทนทานตามธรรมชาติ ต่ำากว่า 2 ปี ค่าความแข็งแรงในการดัดนั้นอธิบายคุณสมบัติ และ ประสิทธิภาพของวัสดุโดยตัวเองได้ชัดเจนแล้ว ขณะที่ความทนทานตาม ธรรมชาติที่กล่าวถึงนั้นเป็นการทดลองการจำาลองสภาพตามธรรมชาติ ในห้องปฏิบัติการเพื่อการเปรียบเทียบคุณสมบัติทางกายภาพและอื่นๆ ของไม้แต่ละสายพันธุ์ซึ่งในสภาพความเป็นจริงย่อมมีปัจจัยในการ เสื่อมสภาพของวัสดุไม้ที่แตกต่างกัน ผู้เขียนจำาแนกศัตรูทำาลายไม้ซึ่ง เป็นปัจจัยในการเสื่อมสภาพของวัสดุไม้ออกเป็น 2 กลุ่มหลัก ดังนี้ - Biotic agent ศัตรูทำาลายไม้ประเภทสิ่งมีชีวิต อาทิ รา แมลงกัดเจาะประเภทต่างๆ เช่น ปลวก มอด เป็นต้น - Non biotic agent ศัตรูทำาลายไม้ประเภทสิ่งไม่มีชีวิต อาทิ ดิน สภาวะอากาศอันประกอบด้วย แดด ลมอุณหภูมิ น้ำา และความชื้น เป็นต้น แนวความคิดในการป้องกันการเสื่อมสภาพของวัสดุไม้เบื้องต้น คือ การหลีกเลี่ยงความเสี่ยงจากปัจจัยการเสื่อมสภาพจากศัตรูทำาลายไม้ ทั้งสองกลุ่มร่วมกับการบำาบัดถนอมรักษาคุณภาพวัสดุไม้ตามสมควร แก่เงื่อนไขในแต่ละกรณี สาเหตุที่มีนัยสำาคัญในการเสื่อมสภาพของวัสดุไม้โดยศัตรูทำาลายไม้ ประเภทสิ่งมีชีวิต Biotic agent โดยทั่วไปจำาแนกเป็น 3 ประการหลัก - เพื่อเป็นอาหาร - เพื่อเป็นที่อยู่ - เพื่อการเจริญพันธุ์ ศัตรูทำาลายไม้ประเภทสิ่งมีชีวิตบางชนิดสร้างรังเพื่อการอยู่อาศัยและ เจริญพันธุ์ในดินแต่อาศัยวัสดุไม่เป็นอาหาร เช่น ปลวก บางชนิดทำาลาย วัสดุไม้เพื่อใช้อาศัยและเจริญพันธุ์ตามฤดูกาลแต่ไม่ใช้ไม้เป็นอาหาร เช่น แมลงภู่ (พบการเจาะรูสร้างโพรงในวัสดุไม้แห้งแต่ไม่พบในไม้ ที่ยังมีชีวิต) บางชนิดทำาลายวัสดุไม้ทั้ง 3 สาเหตุหลัก เช่น เห็ด รา ฯลฯ จึงเห็นได้ว่าศัตรูทำาลายไม้ประเภทสิ่งมีชีวิตแต่ละชนิดล้วนมีพฤติกรรม การทำาลายวัสดุไม้ที่แตกต่างกันดังนั้นการป้องกันสาเหตุการเสื่อมสภาพ ย่อมต้องวิเคราะห์ความเสี่ยงจากชนิดของศัตรูทำาลายไม้ ลักษณะ พฤติกรรมของการทำาลายในแต่ละกรณีแตกต่างกันไป ยกตัวอย่างการ ป้องกันปลวกจากการทำาลายวัสดุไม้เพื่อเป็นอาหารโดยการทำาให้วัสดุ ไม้นั้นเกิดสภาพที่ไม่เหมาะสมในการเป็นอาหารของปลวก เช่น การใช้ สารเคมีบำาบัดวัสดุไม้เพื่อให้เกิดความเป็นพิษ เป็นต้น หรือ การสร้าง อุปสรรคในการกัดกินวัสดุไม้เพื่อเป็นอาหาร เช่น การทาสารเคลือบ บางชนิดบนผิวไม้ ซึ่งสารเคลือบนั้นแม้ไม่มีความเป็นพิษแต่ทำาให้เกิด อุปสรรคต่อกระบวนการกินและย่อยของปลวก เป็นต้น นอกจากนั้นยัง สามารถป้องกันปัจจัยเสี่ยงต่อการทำาลายวัสดุไม้จากปลวกได้โดยการ รบกวนสภาพแวดล้อมในการอาศัยและเจริญพันธุ์ เช่น ภูมิปัญญา พื้นบ้านในการใช้เกลือเปลี่ยนค่าความเป็นกรดด่างของดิน เป็นต้น between 2 and 6 years; and softwood has bending strength less than 600 kg/cm2 and natural durability less than 2 years. The strength value itself clearly describes the properties and performance of the material, whereas the natural durability is typically measured by simulating natural conditions in the laboratory to compare the physical and other properties of each species of wood, in which there are factors in the deterioration of different wood materials under real-world conditions. The author categorizes wood-destroying factors, which are the causes of wood materials’ deterioration, into two main categories: • Biotic agents include fungi and various types of insects, such as termites, weevils, and so on. • Non-biotic agents are nonliving objects like soil and weather conditions like sunlight, wind, temperature, water, and humidity, among others. The concept of preliminary prevention of deterioration of wood materials is therefore to avoid the danger of deterioration factors from both groups of wood-destroying pests while preserving the quality of wood materials suited to the circumstances in each case. In general, the significant causes of deterioration of wood materials by biotic agents fall into 3 main categories- • for food • for shelter • for fertility Some species of wood-destroying insects, such as termites, destroy wood and construct nests to live and reproduce in the soil, but feed on wood. Some species destroy wood to live and reproduce seasonally but do not consume it, such as bumblebees, which drill holes in dry wood materials but not living wood to construct nests. Certain organisms, such as mushrooms and fungi, are capable of destroying wood for each of the three primary reasons. Each biotic agent destroys wood in a unique way, and the nature of the devastation varies from instance to instance. For instance, to protect wood from termites, the wood must become unsuitable for termite food, such as by using chemicals to treat wood materials to cause toxicity, etc., or by creating obstacles to eating wood for food, such as by applying non-toxic coatings to wood surfaces that impede the eating and digestion processes of termites, etc. In addition, it can prevent risk factors from degrading wood materials from termites by disrupting their living and reproductive environment, such as the local wisdom of adjusting the pH of the soil with salt, etc.
