Rethinking Flexibility<br />
Intensification<br />
ในส่วน Flexibility ส่วนสุดท้ายที่ Joshua ได้นำามาเลคเชอร์<br />
ในวันนี้ คือ Intensification หรือความเข้มข้นใน การจัดวาง<br />
ในแง่การวางผังสถาปัตยกรรมของ REX หมายถึงการ<br />
เอาส่วน ทางเดินและส่วนบริการในโครงการที่มีขนาดใหญ่<br />
และมีความซับซ้อนมาวางเรียงอัดกันเป็นส่วนแกนกลาง<br />
ของอาคาร เพื่อทำาหน้าที่แจกจ่ายไปยังพื้นที่หลักส่วนต่างๆ<br />
ของอาคาร โดย Joshua ได้ยกตัวอย่างงาน Shenzhen<br />
Opera House 1.0 ที่ต้องการที่จะประกอบพื้นที่ใช้สอยที่<br />
มีการใช้งานของคนจำานวนมากไว้ใไนอาคารเดียว ได้แก่<br />
ส่วนจัดแสดงโอเปร่า ส่วนจัดแสดงคอนเสิร์ต ส่วนโรงละคร<br />
และส่วนจัดแสดงดนตรี โดยได้วางผังทางสัญจรซึ่งเป็นส่วน<br />
ที่ผู้คนสัญจรทับซ้อนกันมากที่สุด ไว้ตรงแกนกลาง ของ<br />
อาคารในแนวตั้ง นอกจากจะเป็นการประหยัดพื้นที่ของ<br />
อาคารแล้ว ยังทำาให้อาคารมี Footprint น้อยลง เพื่อเป็นการ<br />
เพิ่ม พื้นที่ให้แก่ภูมิทัศน์โดยรอบอาคารเพิ่มมากขึ้น ด้วย<br />
ข้อดีตรงจุดนี้ ทำาให้ REX ชนะการประกวดแบบ โครงการนี้<br />
ที่จัดโดยรัฐบาลเมืองเซิ่นเจิน ซึ่งเป็นเมืองที่มีประชากรมาก<br />
และอาศัยอยู่กันอย่างหนาแน่น การเพิ่มพื้นที่สีเขียวให้แก่<br />
เมือง เป็นจุดที่ทำาให้ REX ชนะใจกรรมการของโครงการ<br />
ประกวดแบบ<br />

Joshua Ramus ปิดท้ายการบรรยายหัวข้อ Rethinking<br />
Flexibility โดยนำาเสนอภาพม้าไม้เมืองทรอย หรือม้าโทรจัน<br />
(Trojan horse) ที่เขาเคยนำาเสนอสไลด์หน้าเดียวกันนี้<br />
เมื่อมาบรรยายที่ไทยเมื่อ 13 ปีที่แล้ว แต่ทว่าเป็นเวอร์ชั่น<br />
อัพเกรดจากภาพหุ่นม้าเป็นภาพหุ่นยนต์แทน โดยเขาได้<br />
อธิบายว่าด้วยอาชีพสถาปนิกนั้น ถึงแม้เราจะมีความคิด<br />
สร้างสรรค์ ออกแบบอะไรได้ตามชอบใจ แต่ไม่ได้แปลว่า<br />
เราจะสามารถยึดถือความคิดของเรา เป็นใหญ่ได้ 100%<br />
เสมือนการยัดเยียดหุ่นม้าไปให้เมืองทรอยฝั่งตรงข้าม หาก<br />
แต่สิ่งนั้น จะต้องเป็นสิ่งที่ถูกปรับเปลี่ยน แล้วให้ตรงกับใจ<br />
ลูกค้าด้วย โดยอาจปรับเปลี่ยนให้เป็นหุ่นยนต์ที่ตรงใจกับ<br />
การใช้งานที่ลูกค้าอยากได้ มิฉะนั้น จะสามารถเกิดความ<br />
คิดเห็นที่ผิดใจกันได้โดยง่าย ทาง REX เองจึงมักนำาเสนอ<br />
งานสถาปัตยกรรมที่มีลักษณะสร้างสรรค์ และแตกต่างไป<br />
จากวิธีการคิดปกติไปเป็นอย่างมาก (blizzard things)<br />
ที่ถึงแม้บางโครงการจะถูก ออกแบบภายใต้เงื่อนไข และ<br />
ข้อจำากัด แต่ก็จะนำาเสนอไอเดียใหม่ๆ ที่ปรับปรุงจากพื้นที่<br />
ใช้สอยพื้นฐานที่มีอยู่เดิม และที่สำาคัญที่สุดคือการออกแบบ<br />
สถาปัตยกรรมที่ทำาให้เจ้าของโครงการสนใจ ตื่นเต้น และ<br />
ไม่เคยเห็นที่ไหนมาก่อนให้ได้<br />
Rethinking Flexibility<br />
Intensification<br />
The last part of Joshua’s lecture is about the idea<br />
of Intensification. In REX’s architectural layout,<br />
Intensification refers to arranging corridors and<br />
service areas in large-scale and complex projects<br />
as the core of the building to distribute to<br />
the main areas of the building. Shenzhen Opera<br />
House 1.0 is one with such an approach. The<br />
project wanted to group the functional spaces<br />
used by large crowds in one building, including<br />
the opera area, concert section, theater section,<br />
and musical performing section, by planning a<br />
thoroughfare layout where the parts that people<br />
travel the most overlap around the center of the<br />
building vertically. In addition to saving the building’s<br />
space, the design also enables the building<br />
to have a smaller footprint and more space for<br />
the landscape. With this advantage, REX won<br />
the competition for this project organized by the<br />
Shenzhen city government. Shenzhen is a very<br />
populated city, and people live together densely.<br />
Adding green space to the city was one of the<br />
key points that the judges admired.<br />
Closing<br />
Joshua Ramus concluded his Rethinking Flexibility<br />
presentation with the same image of the wooden<br />
Trojan horse that he displayed 13 years ago in Thailand.<br />
The traditional wooden horse was replaced<br />
with a technologically sophisticated robot for this<br />
version. In which he explained that, as architects,<br />
even if we are creative and able to design whatever<br />
we desire, this does not necessarily mean that we<br />
will be able to maintain complete control over our<br />
ideas. Comparable to pushing the Trojan horse into<br />
the city of Troy. However, it must also be adapted<br />
or modified to meet the requirements and expectations<br />
of the clients. It can be modified to be a robot<br />
that meets the requirements of the customers;<br />
otherwise, it is likely to spark disagreements. REX<br />
adopts a novel approach by proposing innovative<br />
architectural designs that deviate from conventional<br />
thinking. Despite working within constraints and<br />
limitations, REX strives to introduce improved<br />
ideas that challenge prevailing norms. The primary<br />
focus of REX is to consistently endeavor to develop<br />
architectural designs that captivate and stimulate<br />
the client while also being distinctively unique and<br />
unprecedented.<br />
