Presets
ในช่วงที่สองของการบรรยาย Joshua ได้กล่าวถึง Flexibility
ในอีกรูปแบบหนึ่ง ได้แก่ “การตั้งรูปแบบไว้ล่วงหน้า
(presets)” ซึ่งต่างจาก divide and conquer ที่อาคารเกิด
จากการประกอบกันของหลายประเภทพื้นที่ใช้สอยที่ถูก
นำามา จัดเรียงด้วยวิธีการใหม่ๆ โครงการที่มี presets เป็น
อาคารที่เกิดจากความต้องการการใช้งานพื้นที่ใช้สอยหลัก
เพียงอย่างเดียว แต่สามารถปรับเปลี่ยนและยืดหยุ่นการ
ใช้งาน ให้สามารถทำาหน้าที่ได้หลากหลายรูปแบบมากยิ่งขึ้น
โดย Joshua ได้ยกตัวอย่างผลงานประเภท Performing
Arts Center ของ REX ไม่ว่าจะเป็น AT&T Performing Arts
Center, Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center,
Brown Universiy’s Lindemann Performing Arts Center
ซึ่งได้ถูกคาดการณ์วิธีการใช้งานที่เหมาะสมกับการแสดง
ประเภทต่างๆ ไว้ล่วงหน้า และวางแผนที่สามารถปรับเปลี่ยน
ส่วนประกอบต่างๆ ของอาคารให้ทำาได้หลากหลายรูปแบบ
(pre-engineering) ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการปรับเปลี่ยนระดับพื้นใน
ส่วนต่างๆ ของอาคารให้เหมาะกับการแสดงแต่ละประเภท
การปรับเปลี่ยนขนาดความจุของห้อง ตำาแหน่งและรูปแบบ
ของเวที การจัดวางที่นั่งผู้ชม การปรับเปลี่ยนแนวผนังให้
เลื่อนเข้าออกได้ โดยสิ่งเหล่านี้ได้ถูกออกแบบไว้แล้วโดย
สถาปนิก อีกทั้งยังแสดงรายการคำานวณค่าใช้จ่าย ระยะ
เวลา จำานวนพนักงานที่ต้องใช้ในการปรับเปลี่ยนรูปแบบ
การใช้งานอาคาร ในแต่ละครั้งนำาเสนอต่อเจ้าของโครงการ
ไว้ล่วงหน้าอีกด้วย
Rethinking Flexibility
Presets
In the second part of the talk, Joshua addresses
Flexibility in another form: Presets, as opposed to
Divide and Conquer. Presets mean that a building
is made up of many different types of space
arranged in new ways. The project with this notion
is a building that arises from the need for a single
main functional space but can be adapted and
flexibly used to perform various functions. Examples
are REX’s performing arts center works, such
as the AT&T Performing Arts Center, the Ronald
O. Perelman Performing Arts Center, and Brown
University’s Lindemann Performing Arts Center.
These projects were predicted in advance for the
use of various types of performances and plans
that can modify the multiple components of the
building to fit a variety of types, called Pre-engineering.
The architects will plan these scenarios
in advance, whether it be changing the floor levels
in various parts of the building to accommodate
various types of performances, altering the room’s
capacity, the stage’s location and layout, the
arrangement of spectator seats, or changing the
wall direction to allow for movement in and out. It
also includes the calculation of expenses, duration,
and number of employees required to modify
the building’s usage style each time, all of which
are presented to the project owner.
