ใน Goetz Gallery ที่มิวนิค กล่องคอนกรีตที่ถูกกดลงไปใน
ดิน ถูกวางทับด้วยกล่องไม้ที่สูงเท่ากัน ไม้ถูกจัดการให้เท่า
และเหมือนกับคอนกรีตมากที่สุด แกลอรี่สองชั้นมีตำาแหน่ง
และขนาดของช่องแสงด้านบนเท่ากัน จากภายในมันมี
ลักษณะเหมือนกันมากจนยากที่จะแยกได้ ภายในกล่องไม้
เสาที่จำาเป็นทางโครงสร้าง วิ่งผ่านช่องแสงเป็นระยะ แต่การ
มีอยู่ของมันถูกทำาให้จางลง ด้วยกระจกสีขาวขุ่นที่ติดตั้ง
จากภายใน กล่องไม้สี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้าถูกสร้างด้วย Grid ขนาด
ประมาณ 4.7x6.7 เมตร จำานวน 5 ชุด ซึ่งเป็น span ที่ใกล้
เคียงกับ span ที่สร้างจากโครงสร้างคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก
ความสูงรวม 9.4 เมตรของอาคาร บวกกับท่อคอนกรีต
ขนาดเล็กสองอัน ที่ถูกวางในระดับเดียวกับพื้นด้านนอก
สำาหรับพื้นที่ออฟฟิส ยิ่งทำาให้อาคารนี้เหมือนอาคารสามชั้น
เข้าไปอีก แต่ถ้ากล่องคอนกรีตเล็กสองกล่องนี้ ทำาหน้าที่รับ
แรงจริง คานขนาด 40 cm ของกล่องไม้ด้านบน ก็จะต้อง
ทำาจากคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็กไม่ใช่ไม้ จากด้านนอก พื้นผิว
สีเทาอุ่นคล้ายคอนกรีต ค่อยๆ โชว์ผิวของคานไม้ Glulam
และรอยต่อของไม้อัด เมื่อเราเข้าใกล้
ที่นี่ ไม้ ไม่ได้ถูกใช้ เพื่อคุณสมบัติที่เป็นเนื้อแท้ของมัน หรือ
เพื่อความต่อเนื่องของประวัติศาสตร์หรือประเพณี แต่มัน
ถูกบูรณาการเข้าไปในองค์ประกอบ แม้แต่คุณสมบัติและ

In Goetz Art Gallery, Munich, a two-storey building
consisting of a partially submerged concrete box
topped by a wooden box of the same height, wood
is treated to appear as equivalent to the concrete
as possible. The two galleries both have the same
high-side light with one-third the height of the box,
are so similar that they are indistinguishable in the
interior. Structurally required columns cross the
high sidelight in the wooden box, but the presence is
blurred by the milky white glass which was installed
on the interior side as well. The wooden box is made
up of five sets of approximately 4.7m x 6.7m grids
repeated to form a rectangular outline, the span of
which is almost identical to the span that could be
formed by a concrete structure. The total height of
9.4 m and two small concrete tubes which are placed
to contain an office as a continuation with the ground
level made it look even more like a three-story. A
concrete-like tinted warm grey surface started to
reveal a texture of glulam beam and the joints of
the plywood when approaching the building itself.
Here, wood is not pursued for its intrinsic qualities
or as an extension of its historical use, but rather,
it is integrated into the overall organization of the
building as part of a framework. Even the properties
and mechanical characteristics of wood were
redefined in relation to other materials.
