Sus Cristos en la cruz están todavía vivos, presentan tres o cuatro clavos indistintamente y el clasicismo de la belleza de las formas. El paño de pureza que representan sus cristos es especialmente abundante y su estructura será igualmente rep resentada por sus seguidores, como Juan de Mena, entre otros. Todos sus paños presentan un nudo en el costado derecho, que se hace con el mismo paño. Los pliegues son minuciosos, dando la impresión de tela deliberadamente arrugada. Este paño, arremolinado en mil quiebros, es más corto por la parte delantera, y cuelga por los laterales hasta llegar por la parte trasera a la altura de las rodillas. (Dibujo 22) En algunos Crucificados el paño está sujeto con una cuerda, como el Cristo de la Vera Cruz de San Lucar de Barrameda, o el Cristo de la Buena Suerte de la Iglesia de San Agustín de Cádiz, pero en el modelo típico de sus paños de pureza la cuerda es sustituida por tela, sujetándose el paño a manera de tira que se enlaza para formar el nudo bajo el costado derecho. Ejemplos de esta estructura son el Cristo de los Desamparados de la Iglesia del santo Ángel de Sevilla y el Cristo de la Clemencia de la Catedral de Sevilla. 341
Dibujo 23 CONCLUSIONES La estructura, por tanto, más generalizada del paño de pureza de los cristos de Martínez Montañés es la formada por una abundante masa de pequeños y minuciosos pliegues, anudados bajo el costado derecho y que se prolongan lateralmente hasta llegar a la altura de las rodillas por la parte posterior.
