XIV. FUMO<br />
Passando ora ad argomenti non attinenti alla dieta ma invece allo stile di vita, non possiamo<br />
ignorare alcuni fondamentali errori di comportamento, purtroppo di comune riscontro nella civiltà<br />
occidentale e non solo.<br />
In questo ambito dedicheremo un capitolo al Fumo, specie di sigaretta, il quarto ed ultimo<br />
Cavaliere dell’Apocalisse, che è diventato rapidamente una dei più importanti fattori di rischio<br />
modificabile, cioè eliminabile, di malattie cardiovascolari, come l’infarto miocardico e tumorali,<br />
specie nella popolazione giovanile. (1, 2, 3 ). Si calcola che in Italia il fumo produca direttamente o<br />
indirettamente circa 80.000 morti all’anno.<br />
Anche se in alcuni paesi occidentali, come gli USA e quelli europei, le forti campagne di<br />
dissuasione ne hanno recentemente determinato una minor diffusione in alcuni settori della<br />
popolazione, in altri settori della popolazione e in alcuni paesi europei ed extraeuropei, la sua<br />
prevalenza è tuttora in aumento; anche in Italia statistiche recentissime hanno rilevato una nuova<br />
crescita della cattiva abitudine.
