32 <strong>Theism</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Explanation</strong><br />

<strong>to</strong> theistic explanations, I have chosen <strong>to</strong> deal with it separately. Here I shall<br />

exp<strong>and</strong> on my view that an intentional explanation can be thought of as<br />

a practical syllogism <strong>and</strong> that it relies on a presumption of rationality. I<br />

shall also discuss how an intentional explanation might be tested. I shall<br />

argue that, although they suffer from a certain lack of precision, intentional<br />

explanations are no less testable than the non-intentional explanations<br />

employed in the sciences.
