Letters of Map Change (LOMC) (G194 .3)<br />
This course is designed to familiarize participants<br />
with the Letter of Map Change (LOMC) process and<br />
forms and actions necessary to get Letters of Map<br />
Change reviewed and approved or denied. Letters<br />
of Map Amendment, Letters of Map Amendment<br />
based on Fill, Letters of Map Revision, Conditional<br />
Letters of Map Revision, and other topics will be<br />
discussed and reviewed. Interactive exercises and<br />
in-depth discussions will aid participants in learning<br />
this information.<br />
Selection Criteria: This course is designed for<br />
Floodplain Managers with at least 2 years of floodplain<br />
management experience or who have the<br />
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential.<br />
Preparing for Post-Disaster<br />
Responsibilities (G194 .4)<br />
This course is designed to familiarize participants<br />
with the issues surrounding getting teams started<br />
for work in the post-disaster environment. Topics<br />
include: Identifying Partners and Resources; Creating<br />
Post-Disaster Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);<br />
Introduction to Post-Disaster SOPs; Introduction to<br />
Post-Disaster Operations; initial sweeps and public<br />
information; detailed substantial damage inspections;<br />
substantial damage declarations and posting;<br />
permitting documentation; and compliance and<br />
funding sources.<br />
Selection Criteria: This course has in-depth discussion of<br />
the topics and exercises to help Floodplain Managers<br />
prepare for post-disaster activities and is designed<br />
for Floodplain Managers with at least 2 years of<br />
floodplain management experience or who have the<br />
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential.<br />
Expedient Flood Training (G270 .3)<br />
his 45-minute orientation module is designed to<br />
train volunteers in flood-fighting techniques using<br />
sandbags and other materials.<br />

Residential Coastal Construction (G277)<br />
This 2-day course is designed to train participants<br />
on FEMA’s Coastal Construction Manual. This manual is<br />
the primary, state-of-the-art reference for planning,<br />
designing, and constructing residential structures in<br />
the various coastal environments.<br />
Selection Criteria: The target audience is engineers,<br />
architects, and building code officials. Floodplain<br />
management, hazard mitigation, planning, and<br />
building officials with building science knowledge<br />
also may apply.<br />
Benefit-Cost Analysis: Entry-Level Training<br />
(G278)<br />
This 2-day course is designed as an introduction to<br />
the fundamental concepts of Benefit-Cost (BC) analysis.<br />
Participants will learn how to obtain BC data<br />
and conduct analyses using the basic versions of the<br />
riverine and Coastal A-zone software modules. This<br />
course will not teach how to conduct level-two BC<br />
analyses.<br />
Selection Criteria: The target audience is <strong>Federal</strong> and<br />
State hazard mitigation officials. Other personnel<br />
involved in conducting BC analyses also may apply.<br />
Prerequisites:<br />
Required: Participants should have some prior<br />
knowledge of mathematics (basic algebra) and<br />
computers (Windows and spreadsheet programs).<br />
Recommended: Familiarity with basic flood mitigation<br />
terminology is suggested.<br />
Retrofitting Flood-Prone Residential<br />
Buildings (G279)<br />
This 2-day course is designed to provide engineering<br />
guidance on retrofitting existing one- to four-family<br />
residential structures situated in flood-prone areas.<br />
Subjects covered include an introduction to retrofitting,<br />
regulatory framework, controlling parameters,<br />
building assessment, and design practices. There is<br />
also a 1 hour unit on economics and a final exam.<br />
