Planning for the Needs of Children in<br />
Disasters (G366)<br />
This course enables participants to improve their<br />
community’s mitigation and <strong>Emergency</strong> Operations<br />
Plan specifically regarding the needs of children. The<br />
course will provide participants with the information<br />
needed to address the unique needs of children<br />
prior to, during, and following disasters. It will also<br />
provide them guidance and direction on how to<br />
form coalitions and how to become advocates for<br />
the unique needs of children in all aspects of emergency<br />
management.<br />
After completing this course, participants will be<br />
able to:<br />
• Articulate the importance of providing for<br />
the needs of children in disasters in their<br />
community’s current emergency management<br />
plan.<br />
• Explain what is required to keep children safe in<br />
emergencies and why those needs are unique.<br />
• Explain the assumptions, concept of<br />
operations, and organization and assignment of<br />
responsibilities that address the unique needs of<br />
children prior to, during, and following disasters.<br />
• Explain the planning components necessary to<br />
address the unique needs of children prior to,<br />
during, and following disasters.<br />
• Create an annex to a community’s <strong>Emergency</strong><br />
Operations Plan addressing the unique needs of<br />
children in disasters.<br />
• Identify stakeholders and organizations that can<br />
assist in preparing for the needs of children in<br />
disasters.<br />
• Initiate steps to form coalitions and build teams<br />
that have a stake in keeping children safe in<br />
disasters.<br />
Selection Criteria: The target audience for this course<br />
is local and State emergency managers and planners,<br />
child services agencies, Non-Governmental<br />
Organizations (NGOs), child care providers, schools,<br />
and faith-based organizations.<br />

<strong>Emergency</strong> Planning for Campus<br />
Executives (G367)<br />
This 2-hour overview of emergency planning<br />
serves as a briefing for executives of institutions of<br />
higher education. It provides them with insights<br />
into multi-hazard emergency planning and their<br />
role in protecting lives, property, and operations.<br />
The course consists of seven modules which can be<br />
delivered independently so that executives can tailor<br />
it to fit their schedules and needs.<br />
The seven modules are:<br />
• <strong>Emergency</strong> <strong>Management</strong>:What Is It? Why Do It?<br />
• Executive-Level Support<br />
• DevelopingYour <strong>Emergency</strong> Operations Plan (EOP)<br />
• EvaluatingYour EOP<br />
• Responding Using Incident Command System (ICS)<br />
• <strong>Emergency</strong> Operations Center (EOC)<br />
• EngagingYour Campus<br />
Selection Criteria: Presidents, vice presidents, provosts,<br />
chancellors, deans, and other leadership positions at<br />
institutions of higher education.<br />
Prerequisites:<br />
Recommended: IS-100.HE, Introduction to the Incident<br />
Command System, ICS-100, for Higher Education.<br />
