This course is designed to train participants on<br />
FEMA’s Coastal Construction Manual. This manual is the<br />
primary, state-of-the-art reference for planning,<br />
designing, and constructing residential structures in<br />
the various coastal environments.<br />
Selection Criteria: The primary audience for this course<br />
is engineers and architects. Floodplain managers and<br />
building code officials are also encouraged to attend.<br />
Hazard mitigation, planning, zoning, public works,<br />
and other building officials with building science<br />
knowledge may also apply.<br />
Prerequisites:<br />
Required: It is necessary to have a basic knowledge<br />
of building science.<br />

Integrating <strong>Emergency</strong> management<br />
Education into your Institution (E390)<br />
This workshop provides information about emergency<br />
management (EM) and the benefits of and<br />
resources available for integrating EM degree<br />
programs and EM course offerings. It is a facilitation-driven<br />
workshop focused on creating an action<br />
plan to be applied within each participant’s academic<br />
department. During the session, participants will be<br />
inspired to see the importance of EM and will create<br />
an action plan that they can use, along with a toolkit<br />
of additional resources that will be provided, when<br />
they return to their schools to increase their school’s<br />
EM-related offerings.<br />
Selection Criteria: Department chairs of emergency<br />
management-related disciplines (such as<br />
sociology, geography, public administration, or<br />
psychology, etc.) from Historically Black Colleges<br />
and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities,<br />
and Hispanic-Serving Institutions.<br />
