Hazardous materials pose a continuing and growing<br />
emergency risk for local jurisdictions across the<br />
Nation. This course will provide you the assistance<br />
and confidence needed to effectively plan for and<br />
respond to hazardous materials incidents through<br />
sound emergency planning and with the highest<br />
level of safety for response personnel within your<br />
jurisdiction.<br />
The course will consist of nine lessons, excluding<br />
the <strong>Course</strong> Introduction. It will be interactive and<br />
conclude with an end-of-course examination. Time<br />
to complete this online course will be approximately<br />
4 hours.<br />

Schools (IS-362)<br />
This course will provide individuals with the basic<br />
information and tools needed to develop effective<br />
plans for the wide array of potential emergencies<br />
that schools may face. It addresses: understanding<br />
emergency management; recruiting your planning<br />
team; assessing your hazards; developing your plan;<br />
planning for terrorism; and training and testing<br />
your plan.<br />
The audience for this course includes all who are<br />
responsible for planning and responding to school<br />
emergencies.<br />

Planning for the Needs of Children in<br />
Disasters (IS-366)<br />
This course enables participants to improve their<br />
community’s mitigation and <strong>Emergency</strong> Operations<br />
Plan specifically regarding the needs of children. The<br />
course will provide participants with the information<br />
needed to address the unique needs of children<br />
prior to, during, and following disasters. It will also<br />
provide them guidance and direction on how to<br />
form coalitions and how to become advocates for<br />
the unique needs of children in all aspects of emergency<br />
management.<br />
After completing this course, participants will be<br />
able to:<br />
• Articulate the importance of providing for the<br />
needs of children in disasters in their community’s<br />
current emergency management plan.<br />
• Explain what is required to keep children safe in<br />
emergencies and why those needs are unique.<br />

responsibilities that address the unique needs of<br />
