This course is designed to aid participants in<br />
grasping and articulating the role and core values<br />
of the Agency and the pitfalls and consequences of<br />
misrepresentation. It provides employees with the<br />
ability to take on a more strategic, thoughtful, and<br />
credible approach when communicating and representing<br />
the Agency. Participants receive tools for<br />
enhancing their interpersonal skills and effectively<br />
interacting with others.<br />
Selection Criteria: PFT employees in grades GS-10 and<br />
below. CORE employees may attend on a spaceavailable<br />
basis.<br />

mediation skills for the workplace (E542)<br />
To excel in the workplace and in the world, people<br />
must have command of sophisticated conflict<br />
management strategies. This course explores the<br />
skills of mediation that are applicable to dispute<br />
resolution in any workplace. Participants will<br />
practice successful problem-solving and collaboration<br />
techniques. The teaching methodology<br />
will include interactive exercises, demonstrations,<br />
lectures, supervised role-plays, and group debriefings.<br />
Conflict resolution processes, principles, and<br />
theories will be presented. The five different conflict<br />
coping styles will be discussed, and students will<br />
identify their own style. All participants will understand<br />
how to reduce and transform conflict in the<br />
workplace.<br />

Human resources (Hr) for supervisors<br />
and managers (E543)<br />
This course is designed to provide new FEMA supervisors<br />
and managers an overview and understanding<br />
of personnel management responsibilities. Tools are<br />
provided to abide by human resources laws and<br />
regulations for accomplishing organizational objectives.<br />
It also includes practical discussions on how to<br />
deal with various human resource issues that supervisors<br />
and managers encounter on the job.<br />
Selection Criteria: FEMA new PFT Supervisors and<br />
Managers will be granted priority registration,<br />
followed by all other interested PFT Supervisors and<br />
Managers.<br />
