<strong>Course</strong> Development (E604)<br />

EmErgEncy managEmEnt InstItutE • 2011-2012 • catalog of coursEs<br />

This course will provide participants with the knowledge,<br />

skills, and tools necessary to develop course<br />

materials for a content-specific plan of instruction,<br />

which can be delivered effectively by other<br />

instructors.<br />

Participants will complete parts of a Participant/<br />

Student Manual and Instructor Guide, plus some<br />

visuals, a job aid, and an activity guide.<br />

Selection Criteria: The primary focus is State Training<br />

Officers, FEMA staff, State Exercise Training Officers,<br />

and other trainers with emergency management<br />

responsibilities.<br />

Prerequisites:<br />

Required: Participants must complete E601,<br />

<strong>Management</strong> and Supervision of Training, E602, Performance<br />

and Needs Analysis, and E603, Instructional Design, first.<br />

Pre-<strong>Course</strong> Work: Participants will be required to<br />

complete and submit the Plan of Instruction they<br />

completed during E603, Instructional Design.<br />

ACE Recommendation:<br />

Credit Hours: 2 hours<br />

<strong>Course</strong> Length: 4 days<br />

Instructional Delivery (E605)<br />

This course will enhance the participant’s knowledge,<br />

skills, and abilities to be a more effective instructor.<br />

The course includes in-class reading assignments,<br />

group exercises, and individual presentations. Since<br />

the emphasis of this course is on delivery, participants<br />

will be required to deliver THREE presentations<br />

using a variety of training techniques.<br />

Selection Criteria: The primary focus is State Training<br />

Officers, FEMA staff, State Exercise Training Officers,<br />

and other trainers with emergency management<br />

responsibilities.<br />

Prerequisites:<br />

Required: Participants must complete E601,<br />

<strong>Management</strong> and Supervision of Training, E602, Performance<br />

and Needs Analysis, E603, Instructional Design, and E604,<br />

<strong>Course</strong> Development, first.<br />

Pre-<strong>Course</strong> Work: Participants must be prepared to deliver a<br />

presentation using the content of the unit or lesson of instruction<br />

that was developed in the <strong>Course</strong> Development<br />

course or that they are developing for their Master<br />

Trainer Practicum, or another unit of instruction<br />

from something else they have developed. The<br />

participant must come to class with a complete unit<br />

to include the Instructor Guide, Participant Manual,<br />

and visuals.<br />

Evaluation of Training (K606)<br />

This web-based course will provide participants with<br />

the knowledge, skills, and tools to evaluate training<br />

effectively. Using instructional materials designed<br />

and developed in previous Master Trainer courses,<br />

participants will develop some evaluation items for<br />

the training they are developing.<br />

This is only available as self-paced training using<br />

the web. When participants complete E604, <strong>Course</strong><br />

Development, they are eligible for K606. The K606<br />

course manager will provide the course requirements<br />

and enrollment procedures. Participants<br />

should contact the course manager for K606 to<br />

enroll in the course.<br />

A limited number of participants can be enrolled in<br />

K606 at one time. Participants have up to 14 weeks<br />

to complete the course. Participants will submit four<br />

written assignments for instructor evaluation and
