The Public Works Role in <strong>Emergency</strong><br />
<strong>Management</strong> (IS-552)<br />
This course provides an introduction to the role<br />
of public works departments in community emergency<br />
management. The training is intended to help<br />
communities improve their emergency management<br />
efforts regarding the functions of public works<br />
agencies prior to, during, and after disasters.<br />
Selection Criteria: Public works professionals, urban<br />
planners, local government officials, and elected<br />
officials.<br />

This course provides an introduction to the National<br />
Incident <strong>Management</strong> System (NIMS). At the end<br />

the intent of NIMS; describe the key concepts and<br />
principles underlying NIMS; describe the purpose<br />
of the NIMS Components, including Preparedness,<br />
Communications and Information <strong>Management</strong>,<br />
Resource <strong>Management</strong>, and Command and<br />
<strong>Management</strong>; and describe the purpose of the<br />
