Safety Training for Supervisors (IS-37)<br />

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration<br />

(OSHA) mandates that all <strong>Federal</strong> Employers who<br />

supervise or manage employees have the ability to<br />

provide a safe and healthful work place for all FEMA<br />

personnel. This course provides the training needed<br />

to comply with OSHA regulations for supervisors<br />

and managers of FEMA staff.<br />

Selection Criteria: Any FEMA personnel placed in<br />

the role of supervising or managing other FEMA<br />

personnel.<br />

Household Hazardous Materials (IS-55)<br />

The course will introduce you to household<br />

hazardous materials and things you can do to protect<br />

yourself and your family from injury or death.<br />

In the first unit, you will learn about basic chemical<br />

and physical properties, the ways chemicals enter<br />

your body, and the effects chemicals have on your<br />

body.<br />

In the second and third units, you will learn<br />

about cleaning products, lead, mercury, gasoline,<br />

compressed gases, carbon monoxide, medical<br />

supplies, chlorine, pesticides, and much more.<br />

In the last two units, you will cover labels, personal<br />

protective equipment, proper disposal methods,<br />

preventive measures to take before natural disasters,<br />

and less toxic alternatives.<br />

Dangers from chemical products depend greatly on<br />

the individuals using them. Chemicals are safe to use<br />

when people read the directions and use the chemicals<br />

correctly. This course is available both online<br />

and by requesting a CD-ROM from the Independent<br />

Study web site. It will take 1 to 3 hours to complete<br />

all the units and take the final exam.<br />

Military Resources in <strong>Emergency</strong><br />

<strong>Management</strong> (IS-75)<br />

The purpose of this course is to provide participants<br />

with an overview of U.S. military resources potentially<br />

available to assist civilian authorities and procedures<br />

for obtaining and integrating military resources into<br />

disaster response and recovery operations.<br />

The goal is to provide emergency managers at every<br />

jurisdictional level an overview of military resources;<br />

their capabilities and limitations; and how to access<br />

and integrate them in their respective jurisdiction’s<br />

disaster response and recovery operations in order<br />

to save lives, mitigate human suffering, and mitigate<br />

significant property and/or environmental damage.<br />

Selection Criteria: This course is developed in a flexible<br />

delivery format. A facilitator’s guide and visuals are<br />

available for delivery in a classroom setting.<br />

This course provides training on and resources for<br />

personnel who require a basic understanding of the<br />

Incident Command System (ICS).<br />

This course introduces the Incident Command<br />

System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher<br />

level ICS training. This course describes the history,<br />

features and principles, and organizational structure<br />

of the Incident Command System. It also explains the<br />

relationship between ICS and the National Incident<br />

<strong>Management</strong> System (NIMS).<br />
