The Identification Process<br />

Microbial identification involves five basic steps. These steps apply to all<br />

identifications. A small number of species have peculiarities that may<br />

require an extra step or special handling techniques.<br />

Isolate a pure culture on Biolog media<br />

Do a Gram stain (or wet prep for FF)<br />

and determine testing protocol<br />

Prepare inoculum at specified cell density<br />

Inoculate and incubate MicroPlate<br />

Read MicroPlate and determine ID<br />
