In addition to being able to control the R&S WinIQSIM2 in the usual manual way via the
user interface, this system can also be controlled remotely. Remote control operation
allows automation of the configuration process and is especially useful when a higher
configuration speed is required.
Remote control is an operation by which the software is operated remotely from a so
called controller. A controller can be any PC on which some required software is installed
and configured. R&S WinIQSIM2 might be but not necessarily is installed on the same
PC. In case R&S WinIQSIM2 is not physically located on the controller’s PC, a LAN
connection between both PCs is required.
The figures below depict the following two possible cases:

The controller and R&S WinIQSIM2 are on the same PC.
●
In some rare cases, the controller and the software are installed on two separate PCs.
Remote control operation of the R&S WinIQSIM2 should not be mistaken with the functions
provided in the "Remote Control (SCPI)" dialog. This dialog enables a remote control
of an instrument from the graphical user interface of the software, i.e. in the general case
the R&S WinIQSIM2 itself is manually controlled while the instrument is remote controlled.
In remote control operation, the software itself is operated by means of remote control
commands. A detailed description of specific SCPI commands available for the R&S
WinIQSIM2 is provided in ​chapter 7, "Remote Control Commands", on page 164. The
remote control commands related to the digital standards are described in detail after
each related function section.

on operating the R&S WinIQSIM2 software via remote control, refer to ​chapter 6.1,
"Remote Control Basics", on page 128.

controller and the software.
