Student Lecturer/Tutor Ratio<br />
In FY 2009/2010 results on student Lecturer/tutor ratio shows that on average one lecturer/tutor is<br />
available for every 21 students. This ratio was subjected to variations by category <strong>of</strong> tertiary<br />
institution with media colleges being least privileged with over 56 students per teacher/lecturer<br />
whereas meteorological institutions were best placed with only 7 students per teacher/lecturer. See<br />
table 4.28.<br />

Constraints <strong>and</strong> challenges<br />
Inadequate resources for enhancement <strong>of</strong> University lecturers’ salary, leading to great attrition<br />
rates. The sector is participating in the Omaswa Task force so as to find a lasting solution to this<br />
challenge;<br />
Inadequate resources to raise staff levels at Public Universities to at least 50% for academic<br />
staff. The sector continues to engage with <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Finance, Planning & Economic<br />
Development in an effort to find funds.<br />
UMI registered inadequate classroom/ICT laboratories/libraries, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice space.<br />
ESSAPR FY 2011/12 to inform the 19 th ESSR – OCTOBER 2012
