(ii) Follow up inspection<br />

During the period under review the subsector carried out follow up inspection on previously<br />

inspected schools. The focus was on implementation <strong>of</strong> recommendations in 300 schools, reasons for<br />

non­compliance if applicable <strong>and</strong> the impact <strong>of</strong> Inspection.<br />

Licensing <strong>and</strong> Registration<br />

In the reporting period under review the subsector licensed <strong>and</strong> registered 51 private schools. The<br />

focus is to ensure that the schools have the requirements <strong>and</strong> are operating within the set st<strong>and</strong>ards<br />

<strong>and</strong> guidelines.<br />

Community Engagement<br />

In order to improve teaching <strong>and</strong> learning in schools communities were engaged in 5 schools that<br />

include; 146 Katakwi High, 95 Kapujan Community SS, 224 Toroma SS, 44 Ngariam seed school <strong>and</strong><br />

81 in Magoro comprehensive. The purpose was to find out the cause <strong>of</strong> poor performance in the<br />

perspective <strong>of</strong> the parents, teachers <strong>and</strong> the students. The Parents were also informed <strong>of</strong> their roles<br />

<strong>and</strong> responsibilities in the performance <strong>of</strong> their children.<br />

4.5.9.3 BTVET SUB ‐ SECTOR<br />

Under the BTVET subsector there were interventions that the subsector agreed to achieve as indicated<br />

in Box 4.24 below<br />

Progress <strong>and</strong> Main achievements<br />

In FY 2011/12 the subsector inspected 550 BTVET Institutions in the Districts <strong>of</strong> Butambala, Wakiso,<br />

Kampala, Buikwe, Jinja, Lira, Pader, Lamwo, Kitgum, Ntungamo, Mbarara, Ib<strong>and</strong>a, Bushenyi, Tororo,<br />

Gulu, Maracha, Mororto, Busia, Hoima, Amuru, Kamuli, Mbale, Sironko <strong>and</strong> Pallisa among others.<br />

The focus was on skills acquisition <strong>and</strong> compliance <strong>of</strong> Basic requirements <strong>and</strong> minimum st<strong>and</strong>ards<br />

indicators <strong>and</strong> the registration <strong>and</strong> licensing <strong>of</strong> these institutions before they are recommended.<br />
