4.3.3 BTVET Sub‐Sector<br />
(a) Interventions undertaken during FY 2011/2012<br />
During the period under review, the BTVET subsector continued to implement various interventions<br />
geared towards improving the efficiency <strong>and</strong> effectiveness <strong>of</strong> service delivery. These are as reflected in<br />
Box 4.11 below;<br />

(i) Monitoring <strong>and</strong> Supervision <strong>of</strong> Institutions;<br />
(ii) Conducted a National Head Count exercise in all UPPET institutions in March 2011<br />

(iv) Popularizing the BTVET Act 2008;<br />

Progress <strong>and</strong> main achievements<br />
Monitoring <strong>and</strong> Supervision <strong>of</strong> Institutions;<br />
During the period under review, the Sector monitored <strong>and</strong> supervised institutions’ compliance to set<br />
st<strong>and</strong>ards in 40 institutions, as well as construction works for three BTVET institutions <strong>of</strong> Mulago<br />
Paramedical School, Lira School <strong>of</strong> Comprehensive Nursing; <strong>and</strong>, Kigumba Cooperative College.<br />
The subsector also monitored <strong>and</strong> supervised 13 BTVET technical institutes. Viz:Ahmed Seguya ,<br />
Amugo Agro , Kabale , Kabira , Kibaasi , Kisooro , Kitugm , Kasese Youth Ploytechnic, Burora,<br />
Butelaja, Kaberamaido, Abim, Moroto, Kabong <strong>and</strong> Nakapiripirit.<br />
In addition, the Subsector undertook supervision <strong>of</strong> construction works for three (3) BTVET<br />
institutions including Mulago Paramedical School, Lira School <strong>of</strong> Comprehensive Nursing <strong>and</strong><br />
Kigumba Cooperative College; <strong>and</strong>, monitoring <strong>of</strong> construction works at the 03 institutions <strong>and</strong> other<br />
BTVET institutions (Mulago paramedicals, Kigumba Cooperative College <strong>and</strong> Soroti nursing School<br />
<strong>and</strong> Fortportal SOCO); <strong>and</strong>, construction works at Lira School <strong>of</strong> Nursing, Kigumba Cooperative<br />
College,Mulago paramedical School <strong>and</strong> Fort Portal School <strong>of</strong> Clinical Officers.<br />
Also, the Sector carried out inspection <strong>of</strong> 550 BTVET institutions in the districts <strong>of</strong>; Butambala,<br />
Wakiso, Kampala, Buikwe, Jinja, Lira, Pader, Lamwo, Kitgum, Ntungamo, Mbarara, Ib<strong>and</strong>a,<br />
Bushenyi, Tororo, Gulu, Maracha, Moroto, Busia, Hoima, Amuru, Kamuli, Mbale, Sironko, <strong>and</strong><br />
Paliisa.<br />

Conduct National Head Count exercise<br />
In FY 2011/12 a National Head Count exercise in all UPPET institutions was conducted March 2011<br />
<strong>and</strong> a report is available.<br />
