During the period under review the subsector supported <strong>and</strong> monitored 95 ECD Teacher <strong>Education</strong><br />

institutions <strong>and</strong> also started licensing <strong>and</strong> registration <strong>of</strong> the ECD teachers.<br />

Developed a One Year Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency Course for Early Childhood Development (ECD)<br />

teachers/caregivers<br />

In order to improve quality the subsector developed a draft ECD Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency Course during the<br />

reporting period under review.<br />

Trained TOTS for Faith Based Organizations in the ECD Community Child Care Program<br />

Phase 1<br />

In order to build capacity the subsector trained 249 ECD TOTS in Community Child Care Program<br />

<strong>and</strong> developed an Implementation strategy for main streaming the licensing <strong>and</strong> registration <strong>of</strong> ECDs<br />

in FY 2011/12.<br />

Harmonize <strong>and</strong> review curricular for training <strong>of</strong> instructors<br />

In FY 2011/12 the subsector harmonized <strong>and</strong> reviewed the curricular for training <strong>of</strong> instructors which<br />

is currently undergoing the approval processes at Kyambogo University.<br />

(xxii) Revised PTE curriculum approval <strong>and</strong> implementation<br />

During the period under review the subsector revised the PTE curricular approved by Kyambogo<br />

University <strong>and</strong> also printed 13 PTE syllabi <strong>and</strong> 2 English Language modules.<br />

(xxiii) Remapping <strong>of</strong> PTCs, Coordinating Centers <strong>and</strong> Core PTCs catchment areas<br />

In order to improve the quality <strong>of</strong> teaching <strong>and</strong> learning the subsector developed <strong>and</strong> pretested tools<br />

for data collection for remapping <strong>of</strong> Coordinating Centers <strong>and</strong> Core PTC catchment areas in the<br />

period under review.<br />

(xxiv) Register <strong>and</strong> license teachers (Graduate, Grade V, Grade III, <strong>and</strong> ECD)<br />

During the reporting period under review the subsector registered 842 ECDs, 2,919 Grade V, <strong>and</strong><br />

1,315 Graduate teachers.<br />

(xxv)<br />

Train head teachers <strong>and</strong> deputy head teachers on leadership skills <strong>and</strong> financial management<br />

In order to build capacity the subsector trained 360 head teachers <strong>of</strong> CC schools, selected CCTs <strong>and</strong><br />

inspectors <strong>of</strong> schools in management, pedagogical leadership skills from 30 UNICEF supported<br />

districts in the period under review.<br />
