Carried out construction <strong>and</strong> rehabilitation work in a number <strong>of</strong> BTVET institutions which among<br />
others included; kabira Ts, Kaberamaido, Kaliro, Kalongo, Kamengo, Kyamuhunga, Kabaale TS,<br />
Buroora, Ahmed Seguya Memorial, Amugo Agro <strong>and</strong> Butaleja TS under the Development <strong>of</strong><br />
BTVET project.<br />
d) Higher <strong>Education</strong><br />
In the Higher <strong>Education</strong> subsector, the following were achieved:<br />

Admitted 47,000 students to University <strong>and</strong> 13,000 to other tertiary institutions<br />
Managed bilateral scholarships between Government <strong>of</strong> Ug<strong>and</strong>a <strong>and</strong> Governments <strong>of</strong> Australia,<br />
Egypt, China, UK, India, Algeria, Cuba, Malaysia, Turkey, Russia <strong>and</strong> Czech Republic;<br />
Licensed <strong>and</strong> registered five (5) private universities through National Council for Higher<br />
<strong>Education</strong><br />
Expansion <strong>of</strong> select institutions <strong>of</strong> higher learning. UgSh2bn was disbursed to rehabilitate<br />
Kigumba Petroleum Institute. Civil works were also carried out in Namasagali, Busitema,<br />
Makerere Kihumuro Campus Mbarara, <strong>and</strong> MUBS.<br />
4.2 Quality<br />
(a)<br />
Preprimary <strong>and</strong> Primary <strong>Education</strong><br />
In the preprimary <strong>and</strong> primary subsector, the following were achieved:<br />
(i) Provided support supervision to 60 Early Childhood Development Centres <strong>and</strong> 976 primary<br />
schools country wide;<br />
(ii) Procured 1,000 cartons <strong>of</strong> braille paper, 250 braille kits, 140 wheel chairs, 300 sign language<br />
dictionaries <strong>and</strong> 16,500 sets <strong>of</strong> NFE modules.<br />
(iii) Paid UNEB examination fees for 446508 pupils to do PLE in 2011.<br />
(iv) Primary teacher development: the sub sector undertook training for 220327 primary CCTs; 267<br />
head teachers, 23 deputy Principals outreach, 78 CCTs; <strong>and</strong> one performance review for 150<br />
principals <strong>and</strong> their deputies, <strong>and</strong> a PTE practicum for 16,239 students;<br />
(v) Curriculum Implementation: cluster meetings were held with 8 under performing districts.<br />
Monitored the implementation <strong>of</strong> thematic curriculum in P1, P2, P3, <strong>and</strong> P6. Printed <strong>and</strong><br />
distributed 100,000 copies <strong>of</strong> the curricular.<br />
(b)<br />
Secondary <strong>Education</strong><br />
In the secondary education subsector, the following were achieved:<br />

Monitoring <strong>and</strong> support supervision: A total <strong>of</strong> 749 (45%) USE schools (both government <strong>and</strong><br />
private) received administrative support <strong>and</strong> supervision in addition to the routine monitoring<br />
<strong>and</strong> inspection provided by support teams.<br />
Procurement <strong>and</strong> distribution <strong>of</strong> instructional materials: The sub sector distributed 5,400 science<br />
kits to 1,342 private <strong>and</strong> government USE schools <strong>and</strong> also supplied chemicals to 51,101 private<br />
<strong>and</strong> government USE schools country wide; supported 26 schools under the digital science <strong>and</strong><br />
other ICT initiatives.<br />
Training <strong>of</strong> secondary teachers: The sub sector conducted training for 110 PTC tutors, Facilitated<br />
14 SESEMAT National trainers; <strong>and</strong> trained 2,412 science <strong>and</strong> mathematics teachers<br />
Procurement <strong>and</strong> distribution <strong>of</strong> instructional materials. i.e. 5400 science kits <strong>and</strong> 2,000,656 text<br />
books.<br />
