Infrastructural development at BTVET institutions<br />

The following construction <strong>and</strong> rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> civil works were undertaken in a number <strong>of</strong> BTVET<br />

institutions under the Development <strong>of</strong> BTVET Project;<br />

(a) Rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> Kasodo Technical Institute in Pallisa district was carried out; Civil works were<br />

completed in assorted technical institutes which involved Construction <strong>of</strong> 21 classrooms, 10<br />

administration blocks, 25 latrine stances, <strong>and</strong> 5 dormitories respectively in Kalongo TI ,<br />

Kyamuhunga TI , Kalera TI, Kisoro TI , Kabira TI, Kabaale TI Buroora TI , Ahmed Seguya<br />

Memorial, Amugo Agro TI , Ora TI, Ug<strong>and</strong>a Martyrs TI , Butaleja TI, Iganga TI, Rug<strong>and</strong>oTI,<br />

St.Joseph’s TI Kisubi, Kitgum TI, Minakulu TI, Madera TI, Kaberamaido TI. There was<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> civil works at Obyen CP.<br />

(b) The sector continued to provide funds: for completion <strong>of</strong> a library in Pakwach UCC <strong>and</strong> to<br />

construct a classroom block in Arua Technical Institute; for the establishment <strong>of</strong> Buseesa<br />

Technical School; to Kabale UCC to complete a storied classroom block, to institutions <strong>of</strong> Kaliro,<br />

Kabira, Kalongo, Kamengo, Kyamuhunga <strong>and</strong> Karera for the construction <strong>of</strong> teachers’ houses<br />

<strong>and</strong> dormitories; for the completion <strong>of</strong> Hostels at UTC Kichwamba <strong>and</strong> for the construction<br />

works at Kigumba Coop. College <strong>and</strong> Gulu SOCO.<br />

(c) Constructed workshops <strong>and</strong> classrooms at Amugo TS; Kizinga TS; Kihihi CP; Obyen CP; Apac<br />

TS; Masulita VTC; Namisindwa TS; St.Joseph’s Kyaribungo TS <strong>and</strong> Gombe CP.<br />

(d) Completed civil works at Barinyanga TS­ 2 classroom blocks <strong>and</strong> 2 workshops; Nagwere TS –<br />

Twin workshops; Hakitenje CP – Teachers Houses; <strong>and</strong> Rwiziringiriro TS – 4 classrooms.<br />

(e) In addition, funds were disbursed for the start <strong>of</strong> the construction <strong>of</strong> an administration block for<br />

the pedagogy department at Nakawa Vocational Training Institute, <strong>and</strong> towards construction<br />

works at Lira School <strong>of</strong> Comprehensive Nursing; <strong>and</strong>, for the construction <strong>of</strong> girls’ hostels at<br />

Mulago Paramedical School <strong>and</strong> Fort Portal School <strong>of</strong> Clinical Officers. Funds were also<br />

disbursed for construction, rehabilitation <strong>and</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> classroom blocks, workshops, <strong>and</strong><br />

teachers’ houses at Masuulita VTC, Namisindwa TS, St. Joseph Kyambogo TS, Rukore CP,<br />

Kakiika TS, Gombe CP, Apac TS, Kih<strong>and</strong>a TS, Rwentanga FS, Omugo TS, Bavinyanga TS,<br />

Hakitengya CP, Nagwere TS, <strong>and</strong> Rweziringiriro TS.<br />

(f) Start­up funds were provided to newly established institutions under the Presidential Pledges to<br />

Kaabongo <strong>and</strong> Bubere TS <strong>and</strong> there was renovation <strong>of</strong> the DIT old buildings <strong>and</strong> finished the<br />

new storeyed building.<br />

(g) Funds were provided to; extend power to Abilonino Instructor's College so as to facilitate<br />

operation <strong>of</strong> laboratories <strong>and</strong> workshops. The sector further facilitated construction <strong>of</strong>; a library,<br />

4 workshops, <strong>and</strong> a computer laboratory at Kabira TI; a twin work shop in Ahmed Seguya<br />

Memorial; a Workshop <strong>and</strong> library in Rug<strong>and</strong>o TI; a workshop at St. Joseph’s TI Kisubi; a library<br />

at KitgumTI; a block laying & concrete practice workshop at Madera TI; 3 workshops at<br />

Namisindwa; <strong>and</strong> 4 workshops <strong>and</strong> a computer laboratory at Kaliro. The sub sector further<br />

facilitated rehabilitation <strong>and</strong> construction <strong>of</strong> National Health Training Colleges.<br />

(ii)<br />

Pioneering <strong>of</strong> UPOLET (Universal Post O­Level <strong>Education</strong> <strong>and</strong> Training)<br />

In the period under review, the Universal Post O­level <strong>Education</strong> <strong>and</strong> Training program, was<br />

implemented to enable eligible O’level graduates to enroll in free A­level secondary education <strong>and</strong><br />

vocational training institutions. The program targeted technical/business education (BTVET); health<br />

education, <strong>and</strong> upper secondary school (A’level). The programme, only runs in schools already<br />

implementing USE, which number st<strong>and</strong>s at 53 BTVET institutions with an enrolment <strong>of</strong> 2,154<br />

ESSAPR FY 2011/12 to inform the 19 th ESSR – OCTOBER 2012
