schools partnering with<br />
government under USE program<br />
from 363 schools in 2007 to 878 in<br />

(ii) In 2009/10, the Government <strong>of</strong><br />
Ug<strong>and</strong>a granted income tax<br />
wavier to all private secondary<br />
schools;<br />
Out <strong>of</strong> 4,000 private secondary<br />
schools in the country, a total <strong>of</strong>,<br />
2,828 have been graded by the<br />
sector;<br />
(iv) Provided textbooks to 633<br />
private schools out <strong>of</strong> the 743.<br />
Plan is underway to provide<br />
textbooks to the remaining 110<br />
schools;<br />
(v) Provided science equipment to<br />
642 private schools;<br />
(vi) Registered <strong>and</strong> licensed 203 <strong>and</strong><br />
123 private secondary schools<br />
respectively; <strong>and</strong>,<br />
(vii) 256 PPP schools selected for<br />
UPOLET implementation.<br />
· Road map for curriculum review<br />
has been developed <strong>and</strong><br />
approved by MoES Top<br />
Management Meeting.<br />
· In relation to the curriculum<br />
review, subject reduction was<br />
effected that is subjects were<br />
reduced from 42 to 18 subject<br />
clusters out <strong>of</strong> which schools<br />
<strong>of</strong>fer a maximum <strong>of</strong> 14 subjects<br />
only.<br />
· Reduction <strong>of</strong> students’ course<br />
load at A’ level to 3 Principals<br />
<strong>and</strong> 2 Subsidiaries has been<br />
ESSAPR FY 2011/12 to inform the 19 th ESSR – OCTOBER 2012
