In 1991 a new type of lighting<br />

concept was developed for Frankfurt<br />

Airport by the renowned lighting<br />

designer Christian Bartenbach. The<br />

requirement was to cre<strong>at</strong>e a<br />

uniformly lit apron, but with<br />

restricted column height.<br />

A particularly critical factor was the<br />

shielding of direct glare from the<br />

pilots’ view and their ability to adapt<br />

to the darkness.<br />

The psychology of vision was<br />

examined closely and used as a basis<br />

for the concept. The result of this was<br />

secondary reflector technology. With<br />

this technology it is possible, not only<br />

to reduce the column height from<br />

30m with conventional lighting to<br />

21m by using this system, but also to<br />

increase the lighting level and<br />

uniformity without causing glare.<br />

The main principle is to direct the<br />

light from a narrow beam high<br />

output projector or group of<br />

projectors. The mirror changes the<br />

circular output beam from the<br />

projector into the ideal distribution<br />

for the task. The beam is sc<strong>at</strong>tered by<br />

the convex mirrors, therefore<br />

reducing glare. The mirror<br />

appearance is said to have the starry<br />

sky effect: a myriad of very small, very<br />

bright light sources giving very little<br />

glare.<br />

The secondary reflector system was<br />

developed further for the SiNARIO<br />

range, for workplace lighting in<br />

demanding offices. The p<strong>at</strong>ented<br />

lighting technology used cre<strong>at</strong>es a<br />

highly effective system with a<br />

shielded lamp narrow beam<br />

projector.<br />

In addition, we offer the projectors<br />

and mirrors as separ<strong>at</strong>e items to<br />

cre<strong>at</strong>e various architecturally<br />

integr<strong>at</strong>ed solutions.<br />
