appendix
Electronic control gear (HFG) for fluorescent lamps
More efficient working through high frequency lighting
Apart from the economical and ecological points of view, there
are also more very positive consequences of high frequency light
to the working person. New research in the area of ergonomics
verifies the studies of the engineering office of Christian
Bartenbach, Innsbruck, Austria. Flicker is a serious problem factor
in visual comfort. This is made worse when working in a VDU
area. The consequences are fatigue, lack of concentration and
more mistakes. Using fluorescent lamps and HF gear it is possible
to work without flicker in contrast to conventionally operated
lamps. This leads to many proven advantages and generally more
comfortable work places.
Comfort
• Instant start
• Pleasant, flicker-free light without stroboscopic effects due to
high frequency operation
• High visual comfort without disruptive low-frequency noises
• No flashing and flickering, defective lamps are switched off by
the electronic fault supervision circuit
Safety
• Safety switch off of current supply to defective lamp
• Over voltage protection switching for short term voltage
impulses (corresponding to DIN VDE 160 standards) and for
temporary over voltage
• Possibility of using in emergency lighting equipment according
to DIN VDE 0108.
Life expectancy and reliability of electronic control gear
The failure rate of electronic components depends on the build
quality of the units and the ambient temperature. The OSRAM
electronic control gear units are designed in such a way so that
under the maximum permitted operating temperature (tc
max=70°C), a failure rate is expected of less than 0,2% per 1000
operating hours. This corresponds to an expected life time of
50000h at a failure percentage of less than 10%. If the operating
temperature is reduced by 10 degrees the failure rate can further
be reduced by a factor of 2.
The T5 lamps herald a new generation of modern lighting
systems. They are distinguished by their smaller lamp diameters
(d=16mm) and slim ballasts. The operation of T5 lamps is only
possible with electronic control gear.
Two product ranges
1. T5, high efficiency (HE), optimised for max. light efficacy (up to
104lm/W), in wattages 14W, 21W, 28W and 35W
2. T5, high output (HO), optimised for max. light output (up to
7000lm for 80W), in wattages 24W, 39W, 49W and 80W.
Economy
particular through »Cut Off technology«
