Refurbishment
As office environments change, the
luminaires also must change. This does
not always happen due to the high costs
involved. Refurbishment can overcome
this and create a bridge between old and
new.
Through the changes in the work
processes, the office environment is
strongly influenced by intelligent
information and communication
technologies. The desktop will in future be
a flat touch screen or a screen which uses
a light pen. This requires a completely
new lighting concept, room design and
work-placement. Quantitative and
qualitative assessment criteria must be
fulfilled and illumination levels, power
density, direct and reflective glare must
be avoided whilst creating a pleasant lit
environment.
Refurbishment: the calculations
In the multi-media office everyday life is
stressful for the eyes. The human takes in
90% of all information in a VDUI
environment through the eyes. The
reasons for fatigue and poor
concentration are often inadaquate
lighting conditions in the work place. A
good lighting scheme promotes
attentiveness, awareness and makes it
easier to absorb information. From that
we can say, the better the work conditions,
the more work is done. Lighting motivates
and calms, but it also prompts, lighting
promotes well-being and efficiency.
