Faults in infra-red control / transmission equipment
Fluorescent lamps emit radiation in the frequency range which is
also used by infra-red transmission. IR-receivers are often not
selective, so the IR-equipment can be disturbed. The light which is
emitted by the lamp, is modulated with the high operating
frequency (20-50kHz). It may cause interference with signals in
the same frequency range.
IR remote control:
Trouble free operating is possible with equipment which works
with sufficiently high carrier frequencies (400-1500kHz).
Audio transmission:
The carrier signal for audio transmission until now has been in
the frequency range 95kHz and higher, so that the 3th , 5th and
7th harmonics from the HFG operating frequency ranges (30kHz
to 45kHz normal, dimming up to 100kHz) have caused
considerable interference with transmissions. The transition of
headphone manufacturers to higher frequency ranges, e.g. 2,3
MHz and 2,8 MHz, has brought about a solution. Generally, it is
recommended to miss out the first 6 transmission channels, in
particular channel 1 because they, are more susceptible to be
disturbed by harmonics of basic HFG frequencies.
