36 Daylight systems Moveable prism system The moveable prism system elements use the optical properties of the prism. The prism elements (310 mm x 750 mm) can be used in different geographical positions, because they are precisely positioned relative to to the sun by microprocessor control. Therefore optimal solar protection is assured. The diffuse daylight and the intensive zenith light will be guided by the system deep into the room. The glare will be reduced to an acceptable amount. The view will not be impeded by the system. It is an interesting element for modern architecture because of its technical appearance. 11 Principle Prism systems harness optical laws to guide or reflect light. By using total reflection it will be possible to use prisms as a transparent solar protection device. On this occasion the right-angled incident light onto the prisms will be reflected and the remaining light will be transmitted. As the sun changes its position during the course of the day and year, the prism must be continually adjusted corresponding to the position of the sun. The moveable prism system reflects the perpendicular light (here: red) and allows the remaining light to be transmitted through.
