Some specific columns were shown to separate efficiently and in a short time isomers<br />

of lycopene and β-carotene in reverse HPLC conditions. Five cis-lycopene peaks were<br />

detected in human serum using a 5-µm Suplex pKb 100 (4.6x250 mm) column (Fig 19) (Stahl<br />

and Sies 1992). When monomeric were changed for polymeric C18 columns (Vydac<br />

201TP54) lutein was separated from zeaxanthin and some cis-isomers of β−carotene could be<br />

detected (Fig 20) (Scott 1992).<br />
