Como as áreas contaminadasrepresentam riscos à saúde humana e ao meio ambiente, o gerenciamento dorisco teve um papel fundamental na revitalização desta área, ao adotar uma estratégiaem que foi avaliada a relação custo-benefício para selecionar a tecnologia de remediaçãomais adequada à área com base nas características físicas do local. A implantaçãodos Sistemas de Extração Multifásica e do SVE/Air sparging, combinada com controlesinstitucionais, como restrição do uso da água subterrânea, possibilitou a revitalizaçãoda área de estudo, tornando-se um modelo viável economicamente que pode ser aplicadoem outras áreas da cidade de São Paulo.Palavras-chave: Áreas contaminadas. Técnicasde remediação.AbstractThis study aims to evaluate the application of remediation techniques and institutionalcontrols as environmentally sustainable alternatives adopted for the brownfieldrevitalization, formerly occupied by a petrol station, which seeks to build a commercialestablishment. As the contaminated areas pose risks to human health and theenvironment, risk management played a key role in the revitalization of this area byadopting a strategy in which we evaluated the cost-benefit analysis to select the mostappropriate technology remediation to the area, based on physical characteristics ofthe site. The deployment of Bioslurping System and Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE)/AirSparging combined with institutional controls, such as groundwater use restrictions,enabled the study area revitalization, making it an economically viable model thatcan be applied in other areas of city of Sao Paulo.Key words: Brownfields.
