V. The text in the Book of Leinster, a twelfth -cent my
ms. in the same library, marked H. 2. 18. The tale begins at
p. 259 b . line 11 of the facsimile and ends at p. 2Gl b . line 25.
It has no title, but commences thus: 'Cid dia mbói loíiges
mac nUsnig', and ends thus: 'Loiigas mac nUsnig insin, ocus
longes Fergusa ocus aided mac nUisnig ocus Drerdrend. Finit.
a(men). f(init).' This has been published by Windisch, Irische
Texte, 67—82.
VI. The text in Egerton 1782 (p. 129), a fifteenth cen-
tury vellum ms. in the British Museum. This text has not been
published in extenso: but Windisch gives its more important
variations under the text of No. V.
Besides these, there are in the libraries of the British
Museum and the Royal Irish Academy seventeen modern paper
copies of this tale. They are catalogued in d'Arbois de
Jubainville's Essai d'un Catalogue de la littérature epique de
lTrlande, Paris, 1883, pp. 10, 11.
The text now published agrees for the most part with
No. II. But in lieu of the first song (Mor na heachta so an
Emain) which Deirdre sings after her lover's death, the fol-
lowing is found in II:
