C2.1. SCOPE
C2. CHAPTER 2
AIR EMISSIONS
This Chapter contains minimum standards for air emissions sources. Criteria addressing open
burning of solid waste are contained in Chapter 7, “Solid Waste.” Criteria addressing asbestos
are contained in Chapter 15, “Asbestos.” The requirements listed within this chapter apply
unless more protective requirements are established in a site-specific permit.
C2.2. DEFINITIONS
alkyl esters. The composition of biodiesel fuels permitted for use in combustion is given in
Table 2.5.
C2.2.2. Biogas. Combustible gas derived from the anaerobic and methanogenic
fermentation of organic substances different from waste and having the following characteristics:
C2.2.2.1. Composition made mainly of methane and carbon dioxide;
C2.2.2.2. Maximum content of sulfur compounds, expressed as hydrogen sulfide, of
0.1% v/v;
C2.2.2.3. Used in the same industrial complex where it is produced.
C2.2.3. Biomass. Biological material derived from living or recently living organisms.
Biomasses permitted for use in combustion include:
C2.2.3.1. Vegetable material derived from dedicated cultivations or from mechanical
treatment of non-dedicated cultivations;
C2.2.3.2. Vegetable material derived from forest management operations or pruning;
C2.2.3.3. Vegetable material derived from mechanical treatment of wood or wood
residues;
C2.2.3.4. Vegetable material derived from mechanical treatment of agricultural
products;
C2.2.3.5. Defatted olive pomace with the following characteristics:
C2.2.3.5.1. Ash ≤ 4% (m/m);
