<strong>ITALY</strong> - 13 Natural Resources and Endangered Species<br />

C13.2.3. Italian Protected Species. Any species of flora or fauna listed or designated by<br />

Italy, because continued existence of the species is, or is likely to be, threatened, and is therefore<br />

subject to special protection from destruction or adverse modification of associated habitat.<br />

C13.2.4. Management Plan. A document describing natural resources, their quantity,<br />

condition, and actions to ensure their conservation and good stewardship.<br />

C13.2.5. Natural Habitat. Terrestrial or aquatic zones that may be identified on the basis of<br />

their geographic, abiotic and biotic, totally natural, or seminatural characteristics.<br />

C13.2.6. Natural Resource. All living and inanimate materials supplied by nature that are<br />

of aesthetic, ecological, educational, historical, recreational, scientific, or other value; any<br />

physical, geological, geomorphological, and biological formation that has relevant natural and<br />

environmental value.<br />

C13.2.7. Natural Resources Management. Actions taken that combine science, economics,<br />

and policy, to study, manage, and restore natural resources to strike a balance with the needs of<br />

people and the ability of the ecosystem to support soil, water, forest, fish, wildlife and coastal<br />

resources.<br />

C13.2.8. Significant Land or Water Area. Land or water area that is normally 202 hectares<br />

(500 acres) or more outside the cantonment area; areas of smaller size are included if they have<br />

natural resources that are especially vulnerable to disturbance.<br />

C13.2.9. Threatened and Endangered Species. Any species of flora or fauna, listed in<br />

Table 13.1 or included in the European or Italian lists of specially protected and strictly protected<br />
